The Mid-Kansas Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Inc. is currently offering no less than a total of $200,000 in grants for innovative projects in the areas of breast health and breast cancer education, outreach, screening, and treatment support targeting services not otherwise available to the medically underserved populations of Mid-Kansas Affiliate service area. Grants are available for up to one (1) year. The Mid-Kansas Affiliate has determined the best and most efficient method for providing funding for mammography and other screening services is to provide funding through the four Early Detection Works Regional Nurses located in Wichita (Sedgwick County Health Department), McPherson (Via Christi Contract), Pittsburg (Crawford County Health Department) and Garden City (United Methodist Mexican American Ministries). Organizations and local county health departments are encouraged to contact these individuals to refer clients needing breast health screening under Komen For the Cure guidelines.
We strongly encourage everyone to apply for an education and outreach grant. Our Community Profile indicates that many women in Kansas still do not know the breast health screening guidelines, do not know where to go for services and if diagnosed feel isolated from help or support during and after treatment. We use our Community Profile to develop our guidelines for granting funds for a two year period, until the next required Profile is completed. If you would like a copy of the Executive Summary of our Community Profile we would be more than happy to supply you with a copy. Please feel free to share the RFP with anyone in your community such as church groups, senior citizen groups or high school organizations who might be interested in applying for funds.
Applications will be accepted for breast health or breast cancer education and outreach, or treatment support projects in indicated to be in the Mid-Kansas Affiliate service area. However, projects that specifically address the objectives outlined in the “Statement of Need” below will be given priority. All requests for science research funding should be directed to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s Award and Research Grant Program.
